7/9/2008 How far could this sound card go after such a tragedy? After viewing a post about X fi xtreme card mod, I decided to start this project on my nearly new X fi xtreme music DELL OEM.
My x fi xtreme music DELL OEM ed. Just bought for one week..
Simple tools including: 40w soldering iron, 1.6mm new tip, 1mm solder (0.71mm is out of stock)
LM4562 opamp from National Semi
2200uf 16v cap from local store (forgot to take a pic on it) Procedure seems simple: 1. replace stock cap with new 2200uf cap 2. replace stock opamp with new LM4562 Cap been replaced. And new one is bigger, so have to put it like this way.
When I tried to remove the stock opamp, problem came. I never had any experience on removing opamp. I have heard some special tool should be used, but what I had was just a 40w soldering iron. After a few tries, I removed it with two solder spot fallen off the board. GOD, I should have practised more if I knew this was the result. After a few minutes, an idea came to my mind. I could use blade to find out the wires which were connected to the solder spot. And then, enamelled wires could be used to connect that slim wire on board to the leg of opamp. Enamelled wire was found from my old earphone. see, enamelled wires have been connected.
And finally, opamp was placed on. But the problem is that enamelled wires used are very slim (even slimmer than a hair). If the sound card is warm, that very small solder spot could be melted and the wires may fall off. Any suggestions about that? Or the opamp on a sound card would not be warm?? Do I need to glue the wires to make them stable?? |
